Having done so, they were able to release the FR1 Rhythm Ace, which appeared in 1967 (see the above box). In Europe, he contacted Brodr Jorgensen, a Danish company that had subsidiaries in the UK, Switzerland and Germany, and which distributed Ace across the continent. Hey all, I got a JC-50 off of e-bay the other day expecting it to be a lean mean surf rock machine of sorts (clean, fast attack, well defined bass, etc.) But it's breaking up just past the first notch on the volume knob in a decidedly non-clean way. Seems odd for a 'Jazz' amp, and not like I remember a JC-120 sounding. When cranked, it's completely distorted, and the bass is super flabby. The amp's serial number is 760806, which I'm guessing dates it to 1976, but I could be wrong. I know nothing about the care and maintenance of solid state amps. Any thoughts on what's likely to be causing the problem?

I have a JC-77 from around the same era. The whole Roland JC-series of amps was quite amazing, and the JC-120 is still being manufactured and sold. One of the best clean-sounding chorus amps ever.
