Since I was not able to activate the Clipboard (is this function not available in Win 7 home?) I used Dropbox and eMail. Its a bit circumstancial but it worked. Nevertheless I am disappointed that there is not a universal driver for old scanners. I installed the 'All others' driver to no avail.

Then, I found someone here at Microsoft Communities, (with a different model ScanMaker scanner than mine, but I decided to give his solution a try). What he did was this, and it worked for me also: I 'uninstalled' the aforementioned scanwizard 'SW5_671_EU' software once and for all, and went back to the 'older' software that I used when running windows XP, filed named 'scanwizard 5v6.32' This was software that I had downloaded from Microtek back in 2009 for Windows XP, and it worked just fine all these years until my recent upgrade to windows 7.
